How to Volunteer as a Williams Parent

  1. Welcome Callers greet incoming first-year families over the summer. They offer support and information and answer parents’ questions about what to expect in the year ahead. Each caller is given the names of five to ten families, usually in the same geographic region, to contact. This is a great way to get to know other parents and expand the Williams family.
  2. Parents Fund Committee (PFC) is an annual fundraising effort that supports current operating expenses, especially student life, financial aid, athletics, and faculty resources. PFC members work with other parents of students – both past and present – to solicit support for the Fund. Working with fellow parents is an enjoyable and rewarding way to become more active in the Williams family. Learn more about the Parents Fund here.
  3. The Office of Career Counseling (OCC) helps students connect with professionals in a variety of fields to seek advice about career paths and help in finding internships and jobs. Parents may help in a number of specific ways:
    • Joining a large group of alumni already engaged as career advisors and agreeing to provide basic contact information along with job title and employer name. Advisors are not expected to find jobs for students, only to provide general assistance.
    • Sending OCC job and internship postings that cross your desks throughout the year.
    • Offering a summer or winter term internship possibility.
    • Hosting a student during the January Winter Study term while that student participates in a full-time internship in your town or city. (After their first year, students may participate in approved activities off campus to fulfill their winter study course requirement.)
  4. Career Counseling Contact Information
  5. The Office of Admission oversees a network of admission volunteers across the country and abroad. Many offer to have their names, phone numbers, and email addresses made available to families of admitted students who might want to call with questions in April. Some also help organize Williams evenings or other events for prospective students, especially during the fall or late spring, when admission officers are traveling in their areas. As a parent of a current student, you can provide a unique and helpful perspective for these families.
